Elizabeth "Betty" Beha (Woods)
PARISHVILLE – Mrs. Elizabeth W. “Betty” Beha, 85, of Picketville Road, passed away Thursday evening at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
Betty was born January 20, 1932 in Brushton, New York the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Young Woods. She attended local schools and graduated from Brushton High School and later from Watertown Business School. On August 22, 1959, she married George W. Beha in Brushton. He predeceased her on December 17, 1977.
Betty worked for the United States Postal Service in Parishville starting as a clerk and retiring as the Postmaster, a position she held for over 20 years. She also worked in various areas at the Parishville-Hopkinton Central School. She had previously worked for Niagara Mohawk. Betty was very community oriented and devoted countless hours to the Parishville community as a charter member of the Parishville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Auxiliary with over 50 years of active service, a board member of the Parishville Museum, and the Parishville-Hopkinton School Board. She also was a Notary Public, an election inspector for the St. Lawrence County Board of Elections and a trustee for the Fairview Cemetery in Parishville. Betty’s Catholic faith was important to her being a longtime communicant of St. Michael’s Church in Parishville and later at St. Patrick’s Church in Colton, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Along with her community dedication, Betty enjoyed gardening, collecting stamps, scrapbooking, and could be found in her chair doing crosswords or jumbo puzzles or reading a favorite book.
Betty is survived by her four children and their spouses, Karen and Albert Leroux of Ketchikan, Alaska; Kristine and Neil Thurston of Brownfield, Maine; Frederick Beha of Parishville; and Robert and Hannah Beha of Barrington, New Hampshire; her grandchildren, Sharlee, Shean, Kaleigh, Kevin, Amanda, Matthew, Kayden, and Breanna; and her great grandchildren, Ashton, Ava, Peyton, Abbygal, and Kenleigh. Also surviving Betty is her sister, Iola Raineri of Ilion, NY; her brothers and their wives, Roger and Sandra Woods of Parishville and Ira and Patty Woods of Massena; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Betty was predeceased by a sister, Iona Woods; and two brothers, Lee and Ralph Woods.
Friends may call at the Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home, Potsdam, Monday 2-4 and 7-9:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday 2:00 PM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Colton with Rev. Stephen Rocker, celebrating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Parishville.
