Obituary for David Hopps

DAVID V. HOPPS

HOGANSBURG- David V. Hopps, 88, of 26 Andrew Johnson Road, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at the Massena Memorial Hospital.

David was born on June 22, 1929 in Massena, son of the late Vernon David and Elizabeth LaFrance Hopps. He attended reservation schools and proudly served in the US Army, 11th Airborne, Ft. Campbell, KY from 1950-1952 until he was honorably discharged. On June 25, 1955, he married Nancy Arquette at the St. Regis Catholic Church. Nancy predeceased him on September 7, 2001.

He was a member of the St. Regis Catholic Church, and the Tri-District Elders, the American Legion and the Hogansburg Senior Citizens. He loved to play Bingo, and was an avid New York Yankees watcher and a huge fan of Syracuse University basketball. He also enjoyed watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud and the Price is Right. But most of all, he cherished his time with his family and grandchildren.

David is survived by his children, Jeffery and Liz Hopps of Baldwinsville; and Neal and Michelle Hopps of Hogansburg; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and his sister, Nancy and Cecil Ransom of Cornwall Island.

Besides his parents and wife, David was predeceased by a grandson, Dillon Casey Hopps on August 25, 1998.

Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Thursday, 2-5PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, at 10:30 AM, at the St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Pastores celebrating. Burial will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family at Kateri Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in David’s memory to the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department.
