Obituary for Albert "Bert" LaBelle

Albert "Bert" LaBelle

MASSENA – Mr. Albert Leon “Bert” LaBelle, 83, unexpectedly passed away late Sunday evening, June 24, 2018 at Massena Memorial Hospital.

Bert was born March 19, 1935 in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, the son of the late Joseph Albert and Ozeline (Drouin) Labelle and attended schools in Cornwall. On February 17, 1959, he married Joyce A. Kellogg at Nativity Church in Cornwall with Rev. Roger Desrosiers officiating.

In Bert's early career, he worked as a chef in many of Massena's historic restaurants. He then worked over 20 years as a production operator and retired after several years in the construction industry. Throughout his life, he coached Massena Minor Hockey, umpired for Massena Little League Baseball, played Old Timers Hockey, and was a member of the Seaway Bowl bowling league. He loved cooking, singing and dancing. Bert was a selflessly generous man who adored his family, especially his grandchildren. His most cherished moments were those spent surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; his children, Richard and Donna LaBelle of Partlow, VA and sons, Corey and Josh and four grandchildren; Kim and Joe DeFillippo of Syracuse, NY and daughter, Brandi and granddaughter, Jillian; Randy and Kimberly LaBelle of Massena, NY and children, Joseph and Katherine; and Jodi LaBelle of Massena, NY and daughters, Sarah and Martha.

Bert is also survived by his brother, Rheal and Melvina LaBelle of Cornwall and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Napolean Labelle, Simone Trembley, Jeanne Carriere, Lucienne Labelle and Maurice Labelle.

At his request, there will be no calling hours, a private celebration of his life will be held at the convenience of his family.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory and in honor of his granddaughter, Sarah LaBelle Murphy, to the Ronald McDonald House at 229 Kent Street, Brookline, MA 02446 or online at www.thebostonhouse.org.
