Obituary for Allan "Butch" Deon

Allan "Butch" Deon
NORWOOD – After a courageous and valiant battle with cancer, Allan G. “Butch” Deon, 68, of County Route 35, peacefully passed away on Friday evening, July 6, 2018 in the comfort of his home with his loving family at his side.

Butch was born October 14, 1949 in Potsdam, the son of Leroy P. and Edith (Russell) Deon and attended Potsdam schools. On September 30, 1967, he married Katherine Mason at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Norwood.

Butch was an equipment operator for the Town of Potsdam Highway Department for 41 years retiring in April 2006. He enjoyed restoring classic cars and took great pride in the rebuild and restoration of his prized 1949 Chopped Merc. He also enjoyed hunting and the days he was able to spend at his camp.

Butch is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathy; his children, Lisa Deon and her fiancé, Jack Clary, Mark Deon, Tina Deon McGregor and her husband, Danny, and Todd Deon; his grandchildren, Ashley Deon, Joshua McGregor and his wife, Brittany, Allan Parker and his fiancée, Lacy Mossow, Jared LaBrake, Justin McGregor and his fiancée, Emily Chambers, Kylee Deon and her fiancé, Shane Rheaume, Ryan and Blake Deon, and Brayden Stephenson; and his great grandchildren, Terryn McGregor, Caiden and Cayssen Parker, and Sienna Deon. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Jessmer and his brother, Carl Deon, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Leroy and Edith, Butch was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph, Roland, and Stanley Deon, and a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Phillips.

At his request, there will be no calling hours or funeral services. A graveside service will be held at the Madrid Cemetery at a time to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider donations in his memory to Dr. Velmalia Smith and the staff at the Canton-Potsdam Cancer Center, 50 Leroy Street, Potsdam, NY 13667 or Dr. Gregory Canute and team at the Hematology/Oncology Association at Brittonfield Cancer Center in East Syracuse, NY.

To his children, grandchildren, car-cruising friends, and many others, Kathy wishes to say thank you for being a part of his life and supporting him, he will be sadly missed but you all must go forward.

Arrangements are with the Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home, Potsdam, where memories and condolences may be shared online at www.donaldsonseymour.com.
