MASSENA- Barbara White, 83 a longtime resident of 49 West Orvis Street, passed away Sunday night, September 23, 2018, at the Highland Nursing Home after a brief illness.

Barbara was born January 7, 1935 in Ogdensburg, daughter of the late Albert Joseph and Ruth M. LeBeau Joanette. She attended Ogdensburg schools and later achieved her GED. A marriage to Edward Leon White ended in divorce.

Barb lived in and raised her family in Ogdensburg and Waddington, where she was a communicant of Notre Dame Church in Ogdensburg and St. Mary’s Church in Waddington. While living in Waddington she was very active with the Waddington Rescue Squad. She worked for many years at United Helpers and also did private home cargiving and she enjoyed crafts and sewing.

She is survived by her children, Nancy Grief of Waddington; Laurel and John Desrosiers of Cornwall; Rose and Glenn Barnhart of Massena; Michael and Kathryn White of Chase Mills; Andrew and Peggy White of Pennsylvania; Scott and Sandi White of Chase Mills; Gayle and Kevin Hamilton of Massena; and Kevin White and Andrea Sprague of Massena; and 13 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. She is also survived by five sisters, Sheila and Robert Ormsby, Sue and Theron Green, Carol and Adrian Vielhauer, Linda Fortin, and Bonita More; and three brothers, Raymond Joanette, Donald and Rosemary Joanette, and Anthony Joanette.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by a son, Jeffery Allen White on May 4, 2013; a granddaughter, Sarah White in 2018; and four siblings, Alma White, Mary LaRose, Elizabeth Jane Montroy and George Joanette.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held October 20, 2018, 11:00 AM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, with Rev. Tojo Chacko, officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Waddington Volunteer Rescue Squad, American Cancer Society, or the American Diabetes Association.
