POTSDAM – Marie Elaine Reid Ryan, 81, of Mayfield Drive and longtime resident of County Route 37, Massena, peacefully passed away early Thursday morning, September 27, 2018 at United Helpers Maplewood Campus, with her family by her side and under the care of Hospice.

Marie was born May 6, 1937 in Burke Center, New York the daughter of the late Charles Jr. and Marion Holmes Reid and was a graduate of Franklin Academy in Malone. On December 15, 1956, she married Robert James Ryan at the Burke Center Presbyterian Church. He predeceased her on August 26, 2000.

As a young lady, she worked at JJ Newberry’s in Malone and later worked at Alcoa as a Statistics Clerk for a short time. After her marriage, she dedicated her time and love to raising her family. She was an active member of the Massena Senior Citizens Club and enjoyed gardening, especially growing and harvesting her raspberries. Marie also enjoyed flowers, quilting, playing cards, and cherished the time and memories she made with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Marie is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Merri Lynn and Stephen Lomax of New Jersey; Sue and Jim Corbett of Potsdam; and Dianne and Mark Jackson of Syracuse; her grandchildren, Adam Lomax, Daniel (Marilyn) Lomax, and Megan Lomax; Sean, Brendan, and Conor Corbett; and Gregory (Jennifer) Jackson, Alexander and Nicholas Jackson; eight great grandchildren; her sister, Harriet Bennett of Florida; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Donna Perry on December 17, 2013.

At her request there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will be held privately in Burke Center Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
