Obituary for Robert Larche

Robert Larche

MASSENA - Robert (Bob) Earl Larche, 86, son of the late Clarence and Blanche (Lamitie) Larche and loving husband of Betty (Bashaw) Larche quietly departed this life on Friday, September 28th at St. Ann’s Community in Rochester, New York. Bob was born April 7, 1932 in Malone, New York and was one of seven siblings.

Bob was a 1950 graduate of Franklin Academy in Malone. Following graduation, he served his country in the United States Air Force for four years. After his time in the Air Force, Bob worked as an oil delivery driver, a fireman, and a part-time painter before starting a job as a guard at ALCOA and over time became a shift supervisor until his retirement in 1990.

Bob was united in holy matrimony to Betty in June 1957 and they were blessed with three sons. His life will be forever cherished by his wife of 61 years, Betty; his children Michael and Patti (Littlejohn), David and Mary (Springfield), and Kenneth and Jackie (Seguin); his ten grandchildren: Jason, Jessica, Nicholas, Zachary, Damien, John, Joshua, Brianna, Colby, and Jacob; and nine great grandchildren.

Bob is survived by two sisters, Irene Tatro and Margaret (Peggy) Potter and one brother, Jerris. He is preceded in death by two sisters, Theresa Oakes and Jeanette Martin, and one brother, Richard (Mike).

Bob was a dedicated member of St. Joseph’s and St. Mary’s (now known as St. Peter’s) churches. He was a fourth-degree knight in the Knights of Columbus and an active member in the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), American Veterans (AMVETS) and the Seniors Club in Massena.

Bob was a family man who loved his children and grandchildren. He also loved to learn and was an avid reader of history books and a ferocious crossword puzzle enthusiast. Bob also played golf and shuffle board, called bingo, and worked at the Senior Citizen Club dinners. At church, he was a eucharistic minister, a liturgical lector, and often helped with communion services. And, those who knew Bob know how much he loved a good joke!

Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena on Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9:00 PM. The members of the Knights of Columbus will conduct a memorial ritual at 3:30 and the members of the local veteran’s agencies will conduct their memorial service at 7:15 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Jack L. Downs and Rev. Mark Reilly, con-celebrating. Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

The family extends sincere thanks to the doctors and staff members at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse and St. Ann’s Community and Lifetime Care Hospice in Rochester for the dedicated care and comfort of our father and husband.
