Obituary for David J. Hayes

David J. Hayes
DAVID J. HAYES

NORWOOD – Mr. David J. Hayes, 61, of County Route 47, tragically passed away Sunday morning, September 2, 2018 in the Town of Pierrepont from injuries he suffered in a logging accident.

David was born January 16, 1957 in Potsdam, the son of the late James A. and Helen (Remington) Hayes and attended schools in Potsdam. On August 19, 1988, he married Catherine Saber in Hopkinton.

David was a self-employed carpenter and previously worked with Carpenter’s Local #277 for many years. David truly enjoyed his carpentry work that he did for his family and friends and puttering around his home and shop building things. He had a very generous spirit and would gladly help any friend or family with anything. David enjoyed being in the woods and was a member of the Stag Hunting Club, where greatly enjoyed the time he was able to spend there. Of all his enjoyments, he deeply cherished the time he was able to spend with Cathy, their daughter and son-in-law.

David is survived by his wife, Catherine; his daughter and son-in-law, Sarah Hayes and David Avadikian of Potsdam; his step daughter, Kimberly Murdock of Norfolk; his step grandson, Dylan Murdock and his sons, Camron Zobel and Oliver Walshvelo. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Ann White of Norfolk and Ellie Hayes and her companion, Alson Caswell of Oswego; his brothers, Steve and Kim Hayes of Hannawa Falls; Jerry Hayes of Parishville; Barney and Richard Hayes, both of Potsdam; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by step daughter, Pamela Dashno and her daughter, Emily Dashno on October 17, 1992; and his brother-in-law, Paul White, Jr.

Friends may call Thursday 6-8:00 PM at the Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home, Potsdam, where a prayer service will be held at 8:00 PM with Rev. Douglas Lucia, officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Potsdam Animal Shelter.
