Obituary for Paul G. Shirley

LOUISVILLE – Mr. Paul G. Shirley, 84, of Lincoln Drive, passed away Monday, December 10, 2018 at the Upstate University Hospital, Syracuse with his loving family by his side.

Paul was born June 22, 1934 in Watertown, the son of the late Max and Clara Cryderman Shirley. He attended elementary school in Madrid and graduated from Massena High School in 1953. During the Korean Conflict, he was drafted into the US Army, where he proudly served his country until his honorable discharge. On September 19, 1959, he married Patricia Marie Belson at the Congregational Church in Oswego with Rev. Rees T. Williams officiating.

Paul was a mechanic for many years working for JAC Tower, Fay Motors, Lamendola-Hudson, and Heuvelton Equipment throughout the years, while operating his own business for over 50 years. As members of the NY State Travel Trailer Club, Eskimo Chapter and the Good Sam RV Club, Paul and his wife enjoyed traveling and camping with their camper. He was a member of St. Lawrence Power and Equipment Museum, the Antique Automobile Club of America, the Seaway Valley Senior Citizens, an exempt member of the Louisville Fire Department, and past member of the Louisville Lions Club. He was very fond of antique cars and tractors, enjoyed country music, stock car racing and NASCAR.

Paul is survived by his wife, Patricia; his children and their spouses, William Paul and Patti Shirley, Robert Peter and Michelle Shirley, Thomas Edward Michael and Sarah Shirley and Susan Marie and Leonard Vancor, all of Louisville; his grandchildren, Rebecca Shirley, John Shirley, Michael Shirley, Dan and Renee Shirley, Brandon and Virginia Surdez, Megan and Travis LaBar, and Ashlin Elliott; his great grandchildren, McKayla, Trevor, Morghan, and Emmah; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a grandson, William Edward Shirley in 1988; and his brother and sister-in-law, Max Allen and Beryl Shirley.

Friends may call Friday 5-8:00 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where funeral services will be held on Saturday 11:00 AM with Pastor Colin Lucid, officiating.
