NORFOLK – Betty Jane Pelkey, 79, of Lacomb Road, peacefully passed away Sunday morning, February 10, 2019 in the comfort of her home with her husband and children by her side.

Betty was born March 9, 1939 in Rossie, the daughter of the late Milton J. and Helen M. (Simons) Truax and attended schools in Massena after her family moved here. On November 23, 1959, she married Duane V. Pelkey at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Griffith Billmeyer, officiating.

Betty was a dedicated wife and mother, who was committed to raising her children and grandchildren. She also worked for a time at Granby’s Nursing Home in Massena. Throughout her life, she was also a very dedicated and active member of the Grace United Methodist Church. Betty was also a member of the Cretona Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, very active with the Massena Jaycees and the March of Dimes over the years. She enjoyed bowling, playing on her computer, watching baseball, and collecting knick-knacks.

Betty is survived by her loving husband, Duane; her children and their spouses, Val and Alfred Plourde of Norfolk and Duane M. and Laurean Pelkey of Madrid; her beloved grandchildren, Connor, Emily, Derek, Crystal, Clayton, and Chase; and her great grandchildren, Jessie, Jacob, Josie, Jules, and Maxximus.

She is also survived by sister, Katherine Knight of Tonawanda; her brothers, Donald Truax of Florida; Bruce and Gini Truax and Lincoln and Marilyn Truax, all of Massena; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Grace Godreaux; and brothers, James, Robert, and William Truax.

Friends may call Thursday 1-2:30 PM at t the Grace United Methodist Church, where funeral services will follow at 2:30 PM with Pastor Rachael Jordan, officiating. Burial will be held in the spring at Calvary Cemetery.

I’m so sorry for the loss of this woman. My condolences go out to the Pelkey family. There a Scripture I’d love to share that always comforted me when. I lost someone close to me in death. It’s in Revelation 21:4 which says: “And he [God] will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” This is a promise from God that he will end death forever in the future and we will see our loved ones back to life again!
