MASSENA – Shirley A. Rogers Fetterly, 81 of Grassmere Terrace, unexpectedly passed away Tuesday evening, May 21, 2019 at the University of Vermont Medical Center.

Shirley was born June 9, 1937 in Massena, the daughter of the late Alfred and Elizabeth M. (Kanoff) Baxter. She was a graduate of Massena High School. On June 30, 1956 she married Norman Rogers. He predeceased her on April 7, 1975. She than married Theodore Fetterly on October 9, 1976, which later ended in divorce.
Shirley worked for a time at Westcott’s Stationary Store and Plattsburgh Motors in Massena. She than went to work at Brad’s Big M Supermarket, where she was the head cashier. After its closure, she went to work at Twin Rivers Federal Credit Union as a teller until her retirement. She was a communicant of the Church of the Sacred Heart and a member of Massena Senior Citizens. Shirley enjoyed dancing and singing, country music, and reading, especially romance novels.
Shirley is survived by her children, Ginger and Frank Abrunzo of Waddington; Merlon Rogers of Louisville; John Rogers of Massena; Judy Smith and Dan Jacob of Massena; Millard and Susan Rogers of Waddington; and Timmy Rogers and Julie DeCarr of Massena; 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; her sister, Stella Jessmer of Massena; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Tommy M. Rogers on November 10, 1997; and her brothers, Elwood Baxter on November 30, 1977; Howard Baxter on December 6, 2007; and Merlon Baxter on December 26, 2015.
Friends may call Tuesday 4-7:00 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where funeral services will be held Wednesday 10:00 AM. Burial will follow the services in Sunny Rest Cemetery, Norfolk.
