POTSDAM – Iris R. Anable, 86, passed away Tuesday morning, September 3, 2019 at the Highland Nursing Home.

Iris was born October 7, 1932 in Massena, the daughter of the late Charles and Marguerite (Silmser) Raymo. She graduated from Massena High School in 1950 and attended Potsdam State for two years. She married Charles Anable on August 20, 1955 at Sacred Heart Church, Massena, with Rev. John Pendergast, officiating. He predeceased her on April 26, 2007.

She worked for New York Telephone Company from 1953 to 195. In 1957, she went back to work for them in their Ogdensburg office until 1961. After moving to Potsdam in 1968, she was employed with Dumont Builders, Potsdam New Channels, JC Penney and Vivlamore Plumbing. In 1997, she started work at Sunfeather Natural Soap Company, retiring in 2005. She also volunteered for many years for the Potsdam Public Library, Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Orchestra of Northern New York, and the Potsdam Neighborhood Center.

She is survived by her son, Matthew and his wife, Frankie; two granddaughters, Stephanie Anable and Elizabeth and Pat Bedore; her great grandchildren, Madelynn and Harper Anable and Henry and Teddy Bedore; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by an infant son who was stillborn in 1956 and her sister, Jacqueline Brefka.

I loved Miss Iris! She was my Mom's first cousin (MaryEllen Raymo-Shriver) ! Iris and I got on the minute we met! Smart, feisty, funny, strong and just a wonderful friend! We sent Birthday cards back and forth for years, and I miss them to this day! I can't bring myself to take her birthday off my calendar! Pictures below are (Left) at my Nana's (Eleanor Sargent Raymo) 80th birthday party, and (right) at my Mom and Dad's to celebrate, Mom's Nana's and Iris' Birthdays, which were all in October. Rest in peace Iris! I will miss you! Holly (Keys) Mayotte

Iris and Chuck were long time friends of my parents. For many years Matt was like a little brother and also a friend. One summer our daughter, Clea, attended the Crane summer program for young musicians. As the youngest camper I was nervous for Clea and so I sought out Iris to check in on her. Iris, a music lover herself, visited Clea, took her for ice cream and attended her concerts as we were too far away to do this. In my continuing visits over the years, Iris always asked about Clea and was always so pleased with Clea’s continued participation in music. I will truly miss our infrequent, brief but always light-hearted visits reminiscing about family times together.
