Obituary

LOUISVILLE – Mr. Donald E. Bartlett, 84, of 8 Country Drive, unexpectedly passed away Thursday morning, January 16, 2020 at his home.

Donald was born June 14, 1935 in Potsdam, the son of the late Archie E. and Jessie Elizabeth (Whine) Bartlett. He attended schools in Potsdam, Hopkinton, and Madrid. He proudly served his country in the US Navy as a SeaBee from 1966-68.

Don worked throughout his life for various companies including Alcoa, General Motors, Kraft Cheese, Elliott’s Sawmill, Norfolk Paper Mill, and the Autolite Plant in Syracuse. He was also a self-employed logger for several years. He was a member of the Potsdam American Legion, Potsdam Knights of Columbus, and a former member of the Brushton Fire Department. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, camping, and operating a vegetable farm and greenhouse. Don also cherished the time he was able to spend with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Don is survived by his companion of many years, Bonnie Birdou of Parishville; his children, Tommy Bartlett of Westville; Cassie Bartlett of Malone; Donnie Bartlett, Jr. of Idaho; Beverly Jane Bartlett of Bombay; William Lloyd Bartlett of Massena; Gary Bartlett of Massena; Michael J. Bartlett of Massena; and Tracy Bartlett of Massena; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; his brother, David Bartlett of Potsdam; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Jean Bartlett; a son, John James Bartlett; and his sisters, Winifred Crump Dumont, Pauline Jarvis, and Marie Bartlett; and his brothers, Archie Jr., Howard, and Francis Bartlett.

There will be no calling hours or funeral services at this time. A graveside service with military honors will be held in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Potsdam.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider donations to the Potsdam Knights of Columbus.

I was sorry to hear of Don's passing. He was always willing to help if he could. I remember when the big maple tree on my lot was cut down, and Don was working hard to clear it out of my yard. He also got me steps for my back door. He was the type of person that if you needed help, he would help if he could, you wouldn't even have to ask. I knew his health had been failing for a few years now. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
