Jean I am sport to hear of Jerre’s passing. I became aquatinted with Jerre in my college years 30 years ago. I was a computer science major, but also a pretty darn good potter. I met him first in Art Sennett’s pottery studio then had him as a Calculus teacher. When you meet people that connect with you on different levels like that they stick with you. I remember Jerre more as a Potter than a mathematician. He was excellent at both. And will be sadly missed.

I was a student of Dr. Kilroy in 1977-78. I remember being upset about signing up to take more liberal arts courses during Orientation because I had been accepted into the Crane School of Music and was under the impression that my course load would consist of music classes only. I was a straight A student in high school and enjoyed math but hadn't taken Calculus. When I reluctantly took the course at SUNY Potsdam with Dr. Kilroy, I have to say that my frown was turned upside down. I liked it so much that I signed up for another semester of Calculus!! Unfortunately, it was not with the same instructor and my luck had run out. I have remained in Potsdam because it has become my home away from home. I have worked for the College in different capacities because my education here was extraordinary. It was always nice to see Dr. Kilroy walking around the Campus. He was an important part of my freshman experience. I know that he'll be missed by the many students fortunate enough to call him "Teacher".

Jerre always wanted to know how things worked. He was good at so many things - from the mundane and simple to the intricate and complicated. Whenever I was stumped about fixing something I would get on the phone to Jerre and before I could explain my problem, Jerre would interrupt me with"Come on over, I am in the basement". Ah that basement! We loved you Jerre, and will miss you for the great open hearted person that you were.

Our thoughts are with you, Jerre, on the loss of your father. We are so sorry we can't be up there with you at this time. We still cherish the pottery dish he made. Bob, Rebecca, Alex and Ashley Hastings
