AKWESASNE – Matayia A. Garrow, “Tekahontsiawakon”, 25, of 4 Rooseveltown Road, unexpectedly passed away early Friday morning, January 8, 2021 in Akwesasne.
Tayia was born on January 3, 1996 in Massena, the daughter of Trish Garrow and Joshua David. She was a graduate of Salmon River Central School. She was currently working as a front desk receptionist at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort Hotel. She enjoyed reading, going to concerts, and she cherished the time she was able to spend with her family and friends, especially her siblings.
Tayia is survived by her mother, Trish; her father, Joshua; her stepfather, Christopher Keese; her maternal grandmother, Terry White; her paternal grandmother, Char David; her paternal great grandmother, Mary “Itsa” David; and her chosen grandmother, Dora Oakes. She is also survived by her siblings, Mia Keese, Christopher Keese, and Kelson Lazore of Akwesasne; her chosen brothers, Sky Cook and Korban Thomas; her aunts and uncles, Sam “Pud” and Shannon, Ross and Amanda, Odie, Teresa, Ryan and Kristy, Tracy, Tyson and Kierstyn, Michelle, Misty, Jodi, Shayne, and Jocelyn; many great aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends.
She was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Samuel Garrow; paternal grandfather, Bruce Jackson; and paternal great grandfather, John David.
Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home on Tuesday 6-8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held privately. Visitation will be occupancy controlled with those attending required to observe social distancing and wear face coverings. Please note that if occupancy limitations are required those waiting may have to wait outside until occupancy has been reduced.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department.
