JOANNE C. MaCOMBER
Joanne C MaComber (Sweeney), 193 LaRue Rd., Massena passed away at her home on Friday March 26, 2021, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hospice.
Joanne was born on April 2, 1946 in Massena; the daughter of Joseph and Leona (Barton) Sweeney. She graduated from Massena Central School in 1966. On July 12, 1969 she married Thomas MaComber at St. Mary’s church in Massena.
She was employed at JJ Newberry’s while attending school. Then employed at Seaway Bowling Alley and Ames Department Store for many years, and the Salvation Army until retirement. Joanne worked at the election poles for many years and volunteered for many organizations. She was a member of the American Legion Post 79 and past president. She is now a member of the American Legion Post 420 Auxiliary and the VFW Post 1143 Auxiliary member, past president and chaplain. Also, a member of the Marine Corp., Amvets, and Massena Senior Citizens.
She enjoyed playing cards with friends and family and taking trips to the casino. Enjoyed working and playing bingo and was on several bowling leagues through the years. Family heritage was important to her.
Joanne is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Thomas; her daughters and son-in -laws Tammy and Peter LaPoint, Massena, Tina and Dale Baker, Brushton, NY. Eight grandchildren; Thomas MaComber, Kaelyn LaPoint, Maurice Shattuck Jr., Bryan Shattuck, Richard Love III, Shawn Love, Dustin Baker, Destiny Baker. Three great grandchildren; Zander LaPoint, Carter Shattuck, Evelyn MaComber. Also, two sisters; Linda Weegar and Sally Hughes. Two sisters-in-laws; Patricia Duff, Oregon, Vicki and Gary Braunhardt, Massachusetts. Along with many nieces and nephews.
Joanne is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Leona, one daughter Hope Macomber Shattuck, one granddaughter Shelby MaComber, a sister-in-law Sharon MaComber Jeffery, a brother-in-law Kenneth Weegar and a nephew Jason Hughes.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence County or a charity of one’s choice.
Friends may call Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena. Funeral services will be held privately. Please note that visitation will be occupancy controlled with those attending required to observe social distancing and wear face coverings. If occupancy limitations are reached, those attending may have to wait outside until occupancy has been reduced.
