Akwesasne: Rodney “Tom” M. Martin-Pierce, 59, of Pierce Road, Akwesasne, passed away on Friday, June 25, 2021 at Upstate Medical University Hospital, Syracuse after injuries sustained from an automobile accident.

Tom was born on January 6, 1962 in Cornwall, Ontario, the son of Lyle “The Man” Pierce and Elizabeth Martin. In his younger years, Tom was an Ironworker with local #711 out of Montreal, Quebec. Anyone who met him could tell you he had a personality that was larger than life. If you didn’t know who Tom Pierce was, he was sure to tell you “aye, do you know who I am” and you were sure to remember him. He lived life to the fullest, living each day as if it were his last. From fast cars and fast boats, to taking a gamble or hopping on a plane to wherever his heart desired, there was never a risk he wouldn’t take. He had the stories to prove it, if you had the time to listen or even if you didn’t, he made sure you did. He later became an entrepreneur extraordinaire who dedicated all his free time to his family. He never missed a chance to celebrate the holidays or a birthday with his children, often being the life of the party with his grandiose story telling.

Tom is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Martin of Akwesasne; His “Baby-Momma” and life long companion, Debbie Jocko; His four children, Kristin Ransom and companion Gordon King Jr., Stephanie and Frederick Lazore, Manny and Beverly Pierce, Lacey Pierce and companion Jason Cole, all of Akwesasne; grandchildren, Myeesha Ransom, Korbyn Pierce, Shyah Pierce, Lennix Pierce, Maddex Pierce, Shayleen Lazore, Dillon White, Sierra White and Dallas White; great-grandchildren, Rue Ransom, Michael Gray Jr., Dakota Rafter, Rhyat Rafter, Druvi Johnson and Draycen White; sisters, Kelly (Dave) Pierce-Bayne of Rochester, Lynn Pierce of Akwesasne, Regina (Jeff) Pierce, Elizabeth “Sweets” Lazore Jr., Peggy David of Akwesasne and Tracy Feltman of Syracuse; brothers, Lyle “Boo Boo” Pierce of Akwesasne, Lyle Pierce of Syracuse and Timothy Helm of Akwesasne; chosen son, Jesse Benedict and many half siblings. He is predeceased by his father, Lyle Pierce Sr.; his step-father, Tommy Lazore; chosen brothers, Terry Bigtree and Kenny Leaf; a granddaughter, Mia Pierce; a grandson, Dalton White, an uncle, Louie Martin, his grandmother, Rose Bova-Pierce and great-grandfather Rusty “Tehawehron” Oakes.

Friends and family may call on Wednesday starting at 2:00 pm until time of services on Friday at 2:00 pm at the residence of Stephanie and Frederick Lazore, 529 River Road, Hogansburg, NY. Burial will take place in the Pierce Family Cemetery located on the Pierce property adjacent to Harbour Road, Cornwall Island.

Memorial contributions in Rodney’s name may be made to Ottawa Hospital Riverside Campus Renal Transplant Center or the American Diabetes Association.
